Candidate of Sciences (equiv. Ph.D.) - History

Born in 1978 in Leningrad (present-day Saint Petersburg).

1995–2003 — studied at the Faculty of Asian and African Studies at the Saint Petersburg State University. Specialization: “History of Indochina — Vietnam, Laos”. 2000 — Bachelor’s degree, 2003 — Master’s degree.

In 1997–1998 and 2000–2001 took part in a language study program in Vietnam at the University of Social and Human Sciences (Hanoi).

In 2003 entered the postgraduate course of the St. Petersburg Branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (now the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts).

In 2008 defended PhD thesis on "Military affairs of Vietnam in the Late Le era (1428–1789)".

Since 2006 regularly visited Vietnam for research and work.

Fluent in English, Vietnamese and French, knows basic Chinese.

2007–2008 and 2010–2011 — taught at the Higher Religious and Philosophical School.

Dec. 2017–Jan. 2018 — successfully completed an advanced language course at the Pedagogical University of Kunming (PRC).

In the period between 2010 and 2020 actively worked as an interpreter and a tour guide (Vietnamese, French and English languages). At the same time continued research (publishing articles and monographs, presenting at conferences) on the topic of Vietnamese military tradition as an independent researcher.

Since April 2021 — researcher at the Department of Far eastern studies, IOM RAS. Main research topic: traditional warfare of Vietnam. Currently working on the translation of “The Notes on Warfare” 兵制誌 by Phan Huy Chu (XIX century).
