In April 1980 a modest academic event took place at the Leningrad branch of the Institute of Oriental Studies (USSR Academy of Sciences; at present time, The Institute of Oriental Manuscripts). The significance of the event entitled 'an extended meeting of the South
and South-East Asia Department' was not given its due by a majority of its participants. The secret was hidden in the word 'extended' which implied that along with the Department's staff, Indologists from other Leningrad and Moscow academic institutions took part in the meeting.
The aim that they all pursued in common was to study the foundations of traditional Indian civilization by way of painstaking analysis
of classical Indian texts...
The IOM RAS Academic Council will meet at 14:00 on Wednesday, June 26, 2024. Dr. E. P. Ostrovskaya, Chief Researcher, will give a talk titled “The Buddhist worldview in Sanskrit exegetical sources”.
