INFORMATION LETTER No. 1

A research-to-practice conference

THE TURKO-MONGOL WORLD: PAST AND PRESENT

will be held February 16–17, 2015

in memoriam of Serguei Grigoryevich KLYASHTORNY (1928–2014)

the eminent Russian Turkologist, scholar with wide-ranging research interests, professor of a number of Russian and foreign universities who made a major contribution to the studies of the history and culture of Turkic and Mongolian ethnic groups.

Venue: the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Novo-Mikhailovskiy Palace, Dvortsovaya Emb. 18, St. Petersburg, Russia.

Organizer: the Institute of Oriental Manuscripts of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Partners: The Institute of Asian and African Studies of Moscow State University, the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (Moscow).

The conference will focus on the urgent problems of the history, literature and languages of the Turkic and Mongolian ethnic groups that were studied by Serguei Klyashtorny, while memorial speeches will be dedicated to the scholar’s professional contributions and academic journey.

The main aim of the conference is to present the latest achievements in the study of all aspects of the life of the Turkic and Mongolian ethnic groups, as well as to demonstrate the potential of modern research methods in this field.

Conference languages: Russian, Mongolian, Turkish, English.

Conference applications are to be submitted to the Organizing Committee by January 15, 2015. Please, mention the name of the conference in the subject field of your e-mail. In the application please state your full name, academic degree and title, affiliation, e mail address, the name of the conference, the title of your paper, and enclose a short abstract (300 words).

You will receive the second circular after January 15, 2015.

The visa, transport and accommodation costs will be covered by the participants or their organizations.

The publication of the conference proceedings is planned. The papers for the publication will be chosen by the Organizing Committee.
