In 1881 Ismail Gasprinskii (1851-1914) published his famous work “Russian Islam: Thoughts, Notes and Observations.” In this essay the Crimean Tatar “father of Jadidism” called upon the authorities of the Russian Empire to work more towards the rapprochement between ethnic Russians and Russian Muslims.
