The text of “The Story of Chyŏk Syŏngui ” represents one
of the vernacular novels which was edited as a block-print
in the nineteenth century. The credit for collecting these
novels belongs to a well-known English orientalist
W. G. Aston. Now this collection is preserved in the Manuscript
Fund of the St. Petersburg Branch of the Institute of
Oriental Studies, Russian Academy of Sciences
